Carriers postpone start of Asia/U.S. East Coast all-water service

Carriers postpone start of Asia/U.S. East Coast all-water service

CMA CGM, China Shipping and P&O Nedlloyd will postpone the launch of their planned Asia/U.S. East Coast “PEX3” all-water service until some time this summer, a spokesman for CMA CGM said.

The service was due to start this spring, but the partners in the service have been unable to find suitable chartered ships at economic prices until now, the French carrier said. They still intend to start the service.

In a separate development, Yang Ming said the CKYH alliance would not start its Asia/U.S. East Coast “AWE4” all-water service until next year.

Contrary to last year, when ocean carriers deployed substantial additional all-water capacity between Asia and the U.S. East Coast as an alternative to the West Coast intermodal route, no carrier and alliance, with the potential exception of the grouping of CMA CGM, China Shipping and P&O Nedlloyd, is adding new Asia/U.S. East Coast services for this peak season.
