Carriers report lessening of port congestion in Mumbai
Shipping lines of the India Pakistan Bangladesh Ceylon conferences, which operate in the Indian Subcontinent/Europe trade, said they will suspend their $6-per-TEU congestion charge for the port of Mumbai, India, due to a general improvement in port conditions.
However, they warned shippers the inland movement of containers “is still subject to some delay as a result of local congestion.”
“In recognition of the improved situation generally, lines have agreed to suspend the Mumbai congestion charge,” the carrier groups said.
The shipping lines said they reserve the right to reapply the charge without further notice, if “sudden or extraordinary” cost increases arise from congestion in the Mumbai area.
