Cathay to start Hong Kong/Chennai cargo flights
Cathay Pacific Airways will Friday start its first ever direct freighter service from India to Hong Kong.
The twice weekly Hong Kong/Mumbai/Chennai/Hong Kong service will use a 747-200F freighter and will depart from Hong Kong every Tuesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m., arriving in Mumbai at 5.25 p.m. local time before continuing to Chennai for 8:45 p.m. and arriving back to Hong Kong at 6 a.m. the following morning.
“Increasingly, Hong Kong’s competitive proposition as a global cargo hub hinges on its ability to capture cargo transshipment business, the fastest growing segment in the air cargo market,” said Ron Mathison, Cathay’s director and general manager, cargo. “Cathay Pacific’s new service to Chennai will further enhance the transshipment potential between China and India, between India and the United States, through the Hong Kong hub.”
