CBP proposes closing Noyes, Minn. port of entry
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it may close its port of entry at Noyes, Minn., and extend the limits of nearby Pembina, N.D., to include the rail operations located at Noyes.
CBP said the closure, if approved, is part of a continuing program to use its personnel, facilities and resources more efficiently, and provide better service to carriers and importers.
On June 8, 2003, the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency closed the East Port of Emerson, Manitoba, which is located north of Noyes. Canadian Customs closed the facility because of its age, close proximity to a port at Emerson West, declining workload, and resource considerations.
Noyes, which is located two miles from Pembina, processes about three trucks, 50 vehicles, 154 passengers and three trains per day, CBP said.
“If the Port of Noyes is closed, a CBP inspector from the Port of Pembina will continue to process the workload associated with trains as they arrive at Noyes,” CBP said. “Other traffic will utilize the Port of Pembina.”
The agency will accept comments about the proposed Noyes closure through Oct. 11. For more information, contact Dennis Dore of CBP’s Office of Field Operations at (202) 344-2776.
