CBP resumes foreign trade zone training
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has resumed classes to train inspectors about the operations of foreign trade zones, CBP Commissioner Robert Bonner said.
Foreign trade zones are designated by the government to help companies be internationally competitive by deferring, reducing, or in cases of re-export, eliminating duties.
Classes were suspended last year due to a CBP budget dispute with another agency, but CBP this year plans to resume previous levels by training almost 100 CBP officers in special customs procedures employed at foreign trade zones, Bonner told the National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones, according to a text of his prepared speech.
