CBP stops grain beetle entry at Savannah
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it’s agricultural specialists in the port of Savannah, Ga. intercepted a shipment containing the khapra beetle.
Inspectors discovered the beetle Aug. 31 in a shipment of personal effects from Saudi Arabia.
The khapra beetle is considered one of the world’s most destructive pests of grain, cereal products and seeds. The last known case of the khapra beetle found in the United States in 1953.
