CCNI JOINS COLUMBUS/TMM/MARUBA AMERICAS SERVICE

   Compania Chilena de Navegacion Interoceanica, the Chilean shipping line, is joining an Asia/West Coast of North America/West Coast of South America service in May.

   The service has been operated by Columbus Line, TMM and Maruba.

   Columbus said that the service will now include additional calls at the ports of Corinto, Iquique, Antofagasta, Yokohama and Keelung. The joint service will employ 11 ships of about 2,500-TEU capacity on the trade, with a rotation of Hong Kong, Yantian,    Shanghai, Busan, Vancouver, Long Beach, Manzanillo, Puerto Quetzal, Puerto Caldera, Corinto, Callao, Iquique, Antofagasta, San Antonio, Lirquen, Buenaventura, Puerto Quetzal, Manzanillo, Long Beach, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Yokohama, Keelung and Hong Kong.

   Juergen Pump, senior vice president of Columbus Line, said that, overall, there are some early signs of recovery in Asian volumes, primarily eastbound.
