CELARIX LAUNCHES SHIPPING EXCHANGE SYSTEM
Celarix Exchange, an Internet system that enables
shippers, Non-vessel-operating common carriers and ocean carriers to do business on the
Web, has been launched after raising $14 million in funding.
Celarix, Inc., based in Boston, Mass., joins a growing number of new
Internet business ventures that specialize in matching buyers and sellers of ocean
shipping services.
Celarix said that 10 ocean carriers and some 70 shippers are committed
to use the system, on http://www.celarix.com, by posting cargo and available space on the
Exchange.
The Internet company received its initial funding from venture
capitalists and private investors, including Charles River Ventures and TL Ventures,
venture capital firms specializing in Internet and communication start-ups.
Celarix said that it will enable users to buy and sell cargo space,
conduct global tracking, freight payment, customs management and landed cost assessment
over the Web.
