CENSUS? PCLINK FOR AESDIRECT CLOSE TO FULL IMPLEMENTATION

CENSUSÆ PCLINK FOR AESDIRECT CLOSE TO FULL IMPLEMENTATION

An electronic method to allow exporters and freight forwarders to process their shipper’s export declarations off-line before using the U.S. government’s Automated Export System is expected to be rolled out by the Census Bureau on July 16.

Five companies, which already use Census’ free Internet link, AESDirect, to process their shipper’s export declarations in AES, are testing PcLink.

“PcLink allows filers to do all of their work off-line,” said Gerard J. Horner, chief of the Census’ AES Branch. “The only time they use the Internet is upload their SED data to AESDirect.”

Horner said PcLink will be useful to both small exporters and forwarders with limited telephone lines and larger companies which prefer to batch file their SED data to Census.
