CERES/NYK EXTENDS DEAL TO OPERATE HALIFAX TERMINAL

The Halifax Port Authority said Ceres/NYK will remain as operator at the Fairview Cove Container Terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia, under a new 20-year contract that begins Jan. 1.

Cerescorp had been the original operator for the terminal, which opened in 1982.

The port picked Ceres/NYK after a bidding process described as “an intensely competitive situation” by Karen Oldfield, president and chief executive officer of the Halifax Port Authority.

“The deal we signed with Ceres/NYK is a boost for the port and the regional economy,” said Alan Abraham Jr., chairman of the port’s board of directors.

The Halifax Port Authority is an government business enterprise mandated by Canada’s minister of transport.
