CHINA EASTERN PLANS MERGER
China Eastern Airlines plans to merge with four smaller Chinese airlines in a sign China's aviation market is entering a consolidation period, sources in China have reported.
The merger comes at the request of China's civil aviation administration, which is considering a restructuring of the country's airline industry.
China Eastern is China's third-largest carrier, behind China Southern Airlines and Air China.
