CHINA SHIPPING MOVES FORWARD WITH NEW LOS ANGELES TERMINAL

China Shipping Group, the expansion-driven Chinese shipping group, said that it has started work on its new dedicated container terminal in Los Angeles and ordered quayside container cranes.

China Shipping Terminal Development has signed a contract with Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. for the provision of the cranes by November of next year.

China Shipping will lease berths 100-102 in the port of Los Angeles, making China Shipping “the first Chinese shipping company to operate terminals in the U.S.,” the carrier said

The terminal will have an area of approximately 110 acres, with a quay length of 900 meters and more than 16 meters of water depth.

“The terminal, when completed, will accommodate the berthing of the world’s largest container ships,” China Shipping said. Earlier this year, the Samsung shipyard said that it was discussing orders by China Shipping for 9,000-TEU vessels, but the orders have apparently not yet been confirmed.
