CHINA SOUTHERN ADDS SHANGHAI TO FREIGHTER NETWORK
China Southern Airlines, China’s largest air carrier, has added Shanghai to its fledgling China/U.S. freighter network.
China Southern launched a B747 freighter flight, using an Atlas Air plane, between Shenzhen and Chicago in April. Starting this week, flights leaving Chicago will stop in Shanghai before flying on to Shenzhen.
U.S. exports “have new choices of either having their China-bound goods arrive in either Shanghai for distribution to North and Central China, or continuing to Shenzhen for distribution to Southern China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia,” said Yan Zhi Qing, China Southern’s president.
The carrier also started a trucking service this week from New York to Chicago to link East Coast shippers to its transpacific flights.
