CKYH carriers to take space from MSCÆs U.S. Gulf/Europe service

CKYH alliance members COSCO, “K” Line and Yang Ming Marine will charter slots from Mediterranean Shipping Co. between the U.S. Gulf ports of Houston and New Orleans and North Europe.

Hanjin Shipping, the other member of the alliance is not involved in the arrangement, which is expected to commence mid-February.

The slot charter arrangement with MSC replaces the three carriers’ existing deal with the Grand Alliance, which is ending due to the realignment of tonnage following P&O Nedlloyd’s withdrawal from the Grand Alliance.

MSC’s weekly South Atlantic, Mexico & Gulf service uses six ships of about 5,000 TEUs and has a full port rotation of: Veracruz and Altamira, Mexico; Houston; New Orleans; Freeport, Bahamas; Charleston, S.C.; Antwerp; Felixstowe; Hamburg; Bremerhaven; Le Havre; Charleston;    Freeport; and back to Veracruz.
