CKYH to rebrand as green alliance

CKYH to rebrand as green alliance

The CKYH Alliance of ocean carriers said Monday it met in Zhenjiang, China, last week to discuss operational issues as the shipping industry recovers from the demand downturn.

CKYH members are COSCO Container Lines, 'K' Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping.

'To overcome challenges facing the shipping industry, CKYH will continuously harmonize its services to enhance its core competitiveness,' the carriers said. 'At the same time, all members will take positive action to take full advantage of regional transship hubs, build up extensive feeder networks, extend cooperation to the north/south trades and new emerging markets, and widen the scope of cooperation to other sections of the transport chain by optimizing the alliance's resources such as terminals, chassis, intermodal facilities and equipment.'

The carriers said they also plan to rebrand their alliance 'CKYH ' The Green Alliance' as they seek to reduce their collective environmental impact.

CKYH operates 17 loops on the transpacific, where it has the highest market share of any alliance, according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data, with 12 to the U.S. West Coast and five to the U.S. East Coast. The lines operate eight loops between Asia and Europe and one on the transatlantic.
