CKYHS carriers revise terms of alliance

COSCO Container Lines, “K” Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin Shipping and Senator Lines have revised the terms of their alliance cooperation as it affects U.S. trades.

In a proposed revision of their “COSCON/KL/YMUK/Hanjin/Senator Worldwide Slot Allocation & Sailing Agreement,” filed with the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission, the carriers have restated the vessel and TEU deployments of the parties, and allowed Senator flexibility to adjust its vessel and TEU deployment without amendment of the agreement.

The global alliance of the four Asian carriers and Senator is commonly known as the “CKYHS” alliance.

The revision of the agreement also confirms that Senator is not a vessel-operating common carrier in U.S. trades.

Senator, a subsidiary of fellow alliance carrier Hanjin, pulled out of the transpacific and transatlantic trades in January.
