CMA CGM to develop box terminal in West Africa
French shipping line CMA CGM and the Spanish port investment company Progosa will build and operate a container terminal in the West African port of Lome, in Togo, under an agreement signed with the government of Togo Dec. 28.
CMA CGM said the expected investment in the terminal over the next 10 years will be about 30 billion CFA francs ($60 million).
The container terminal will provide a 400-meter (1,310-foot) berth and will be operated by a 50-50 joint venture company between Progosa and CMA CGM.
The French shipping line said the new terminal will be a hub for its African traffic coming from Asia. It will be the first container terminal that it operates in Africa.
The terminal project aims to handle large containerships, CMA CGM added.
