CMA CGM’s Malta concession extended
The Maltese government today extended CMA CGM-subsidiary Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd.’s terminal concession at the Port of Marsaxlokk to 65 years.
CMA CGM was originally awarded a 30-year concession to operate and develop Malta Freeport Terminals in October 2004. The French carrier makes 14 weekly calls to the port, which it will continue to operate as a common user facility.
The French company is planning significant investment in the terminal over the coming years so that it will be able to handle vessels of over 13,000 TEUs and boost its annual capacity to 3 million TEUs.
