CN, BROTHERHOOD OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS REACH LABOR AGREEMENT

Canadian National Railway Co. and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers have tentatively reached agreement on a new labor agreement covering 415 engineers who work on CN’s former Illinois Central properties in the United States.

The agreement, patterned after the union’s agreement with CN’s Wisconsin Central division earlier this year, would eliminate all prior work rules and agreements in exchange for guaranteed time off and job security for all the union members qualified as engineers. The agreement would also modernize the mileage- and rule-based compensation system.

“This innovative approach to rail industry wage and working conditions will improve labor relations on the railroad and secure a better balance between work and home life for our members,” said Rick Radek, international vice president for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
