CN, BROTHERHOOD OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS SIGN NEW LABOR AGREEMENT
Canadian National and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers have ratified a new labor agreement, effective Aug. 1, covering the railroad’s former Illinois Central properties.
The agreement, which was modeled after the deal struck between CN’s Wisconsin Central Division and the union earlier this year, covers 415 locomotive engineers and eliminated prior work rules and agreements in exchange for guaranteed time off and job security for the union workers. It will also see engineers paid an hourly wage.
CN’s former Illinois Central properties include the Illinois Central Railroad, which runs from Chicago to New Orleans; and the Chicago, Central & Pacific, which connects Chicago and Omaha, Neb., and Sioux City, Iowa.
