CN SAYS ITÆS FIRST NORTH AMERICAN RAILROAD TO JOIN C-TPAT

Canadian National said Wednesday it has become the first North American railroad to gain membership in the U.S. Customs Service's Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program.

C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative designed to build cooperative relationship to bolster supply chain and border security.

CN said its membership in C-TPAT is an extension of its participation in U.S. Customs' Carrier Initiative Program that is directed at countering narcotics and smuggling.

C-TPAT participants must agree to a series of initiatives, including a comprehensive self-assessment of supply chain security, completing a supply chain security questionnaire, developing a program to enhance security throughout the supply chain in accordance with C-TPAT security recommendations, and communication of C-TPAT security recommendations to other companies in the supply chain and working toward building the security recommendations into relationships with those companies.
