COAST GUARD ALLOWS ôMARINE CHEMISTö TO SAIL AFTER INSPECTION
The St. Vincent-flag, 671-foot-long vessel 'Marine Chemist,' which ran aground Jan. 30 on Cottonwood Island on the Washington State side of the Columbia River, was refloated without further incident and sailed late Saturday night, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson in Portland, Ore. said.
“The Coast Guard directed that the vessel proceed to a safe anchorage once it was refloated. We found that no damage to the hull had occurred during the grounding,” the spokesperson said.
The ship then departed for India, where it was to be scrapped.
