COAST GUARD COMMITTEE TO PROPOSE CHEMICAL RESPONSE INDUSTRY STANDARDS

COAST GUARD COMMITTEE TO PROPOSE CHEMICAL RESPONSE INDUSTRY STANDARDS

A U.S. Coast Guard committee of hazardous materials specialists will hold a meeting May 17-18 in Houston to review the draft document for a national marine emergency chemical response guide.

The document covers the safety protocols for personnel, training requirements and equipment specifics. It also “categorizes” response teams based on their ability to bring equipment to the scene of a hazardous materials spill.

The group reviewing the document is the Coast Guard’s Hazardous Substances Response Standards Subcommittee of the Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee.

“The Subcommittee will develop recommendations for a national standard that will provide direction to the chemical response industry,” the Coast Guard said.

To attend the meeting, contact Lt. Susan Klein, the Coast Guard’s technical representative for the subcommittee, at 202-267-0417.
