Coast Guard investigates barge grounding in upper James River
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the grounding of a barge in the upper James River about five miles south of Richmond, Va.
The 250-foot barge, “Piney Point,” was transporting about 1.26 million gallons of liquid asphalt when it ran aground.
One tank was damaged. “Soundings indicate that the other tanks aboard are not leaking,” the Coast Guard said.
