Coast Guard launches Internet security portal
The U.S. Coast Guard has begun the initial deployment of Homeport, an Internet portal for maritime security created to provide information and services to the maritime industry.
Maritime security coordinators will use the portal 'as a primary means for the day-to-day management and communication of port security matters,' the Coast Guard said in a statement.
The portal will also disseminate 'sensitive but unclassified information to targeted groups of registered users within the port community,' the Coast Guard said.
