COLUMBIA COASTAL ADDS PORT CANAVERAL, EXPANDS CHESAPEAKE SERVICE

   Columbia Coastal Transport LLC, the U.S. coastwise container barge operator, has added regular weekly service to Port Canaveral, Fla., and has expanded its capacity in its Chesapeake service linking Norfolk and Baltimore.

      The Port Canaveral service will start March 23, when the 590-TEU Columbia New York container barge calls the port. The service can also accommodate reefer cargo.

      Columbia Coastal's Southern Service itinerary is Charleston, Monday; Savannah, Tuesday; Port Canaveral, Thursday; Miami, Friday; and Savannah on Sunday.

      The company is deploying is new 912-TEU barge, the Columbia Elizabeth, into the Chesapeake service, expanding the service capacity by 20 percent.

      The container, which Columbia Coastal said is among the largest ever built, can carry 20-, 40-, and 45-foot containers, including reefers.
