COMMERCE PUBLISHES WORSTED WOOL FABRIC QUOTA IMPORTER LIST
The U.S. Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration has published a list of importers that will participate in the government’s worsted wool fabric tariff rate quota program for calendar year 2000.
Title V of the 2000 Trade and Development Act establishes two tariff rate quotas, which provide temporary reductions in import duties on two categories of worsted wool fabrics. These fabrics are used to make suits, suit-type jackets and trousers.
For worsted wool fabric with average fiber diameters greater than 18.5 microns (Harmonized Tariff Schedule heading 9902.51.11), the reduction in duty is limited to 2.5 million square meter equivalents a year. For worsted wool fabric with an average fiber diameter of 18.5 microns or less (HTS heading 9902.51.12), the reduction is limited to 1.5 million square meter equivalents a year.
On March 14, Commerce published a notice soliciting applications for an allocation of the 2001 tariff rate quotas, with a closing date of April 13. “All applicants were determined to be eligible for an allocation,” Commerce said.
