COMPLIANCE PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION TAKES ROOT

A group of international trade compliance executives has launched a new association specifically tailored to their day-to-day and long-range issues.

The International Compliance Professional Association will distribute information and monitor issues relevant to export and import compliance management concerns. In addition, the group will arrange education, networking and career opportunities for members.

Lynda Thomas and Ann Lister, both compliance executives from Texas, established the concept of the ICPA in the summer of 2001.

The group started out as a small ad-hoc e-mail list of individuals, which now stands at about 400 members. “The e-mail list kept growing and we knew we needed to incorporate and make it ‘official,'” Lister said.

The ICPA’s Web site (http://www.icpainc.org) will feature topic-specific bulletin boards, specific programs, best practices and job opportunities. In addition, the association’s board has selected law firm KMZ Rosenman as its U.S. counsel, and Gottlieb & Pearson as its Canadian counsel.
