Con-Way expands in Mexico
Less-than-truckload carrier Con-Way Transportation Services said its Mexican operating company, Con-Way Mexico Express, will open six logistics centers July 4 to serve major markets in Mexico. The facilities are located in Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Guadalajara, Queretaro and Mexico City.
Each of the new centers will have sales offices, increasing to 50 the number of domestic sales staff.
'We eventually want to provide the same service in Mexico that we currently provide in the United States and Canada,' said David McClimon, Con-Way's new president, in a statement.
U.S. motor carriers are not yet allowed to operate in Mexico, so they must contract Mexican trucking companies to move cargo to and from the U.S. border and between domestic destinations. Con-Way says its carrier partners are held to the same transit time and freight handling standards as the rest of its regional and cross-border trucking companies. The centers will link to Con-Way's computer system to allow the company to monitor on-time performance and provide customers shipment visibility and storage details via the Internet.
