Container Corp. of India is in talks with shipping services firms for joint ventures that would help it offer multimodal and door-to-door transport services, a senior official told Reuters Thursday.

The state-run logistics company, which entered into a joint venture with private-sector firm Transport Corp. of India (TCI), now plans to extend the partnership to coastal services, said Rakesh Mehrotra, managing director.

ConCor is 63 percent owned by the Indian government and uses the Indian Railway network linking its network of 57 container freight stations nationwide. It has already set up joint ventures with Gateway Distriparks and APL to operate container depots.

ConCor plans to spend $120 million in 2007-2008 on building more container freight stations, ordering new wagons and in joint ventures, Mehrotra said. It plans to add four freight stations this financial year to its existing 57.
