Conference to rebuild Liberia held at UN headquarters
The United Nations, World Bank and U.S. government will host a conference on the reconstruction of former war-torn Liberia.
The conference, which will be held Feb. 5-6 at the UN’s headquarters in New York, will include representatives from more than 100 countries, international institutions and other supporters of Liberia’s reconstruction. Reconstruction efforts in the West African country may result in lucrative business opportunities for shippers and carriers.
The signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Accra, Ghana, helped to bring an end to the civil war in Liberia in August 2003.
“This conference follows on the foundations set by this agreement to mobilize and provide the country with the proper tools and funding to achieve a more stable peace and long-term recovery,” the U.S. Agency for International Development said in a statement.
