Container accident causes small oil spill in Long Beach, no injuries
A container accident in the Port of Long Beach Monday damaged a fuel line on a fuel barge, resulting in an on-deck oil spill of about 500 gallons on the barge.
No one was injured in the accident, which happened when a container on the 'MSC Lorita,' which was berthed at Pier A in Long Beach, fell off the ship and landed on a fuel barge below. The barge wasn’t in the process of bunkering the container vessel, so no one was on the deck when the container fell, the Marine Exchange of Southern California reported.
The fuel line was immediately cut off when the accident occurred and no fuel went into the water, according to the California Office of Spill Prevention and Response.
