Continental to start Newark/Athens flights

Continental Airlines in June will add Greece to its transatlantic route network when it starts daily nonstop flights between New Liberty International Airport in Newark and Athens, subject to government approval.

Greece will become the airline's 16th country served in the transatlantic market while Athens will become its 29th city.

The new service is scheduled to start June 7 using Boeing 767-200ER aircraft and will depart Newark daily at 5:30 p.m., arriving at Athens at 10:20 a.m. the next day. The return flight will depart Athens daily at 12:20 p.m., arriving at Newark at 4:30 p.m. the same day.

The frequency of the service will be reduced to five flights weekly during September and October and also April and May. From November to March, the service frequency will drop further to three flights weekly due to the traditional seasonal reduction in demand, Continental said.
