COSCO ORDERS SEVEN 5,250-TEU CONTAINERSHIPS

   China Ocean Shipping Co. has ordered seven 5250-TEU
containerships, with another three vessels on option, from the Japanese shipyard Kawasaki
Heavy Industries.
    The vessels will be delivered by 2001.
    Two of the seven vessels will be subcontracted to the Chinese shipyard
Nantong Shipyard.
    COSCO already operates a series of six 5,446-TEU capacity, built in
1997, that are deployed in the transpacific trade.
