COSCO RATIONALIZES ASIA/MEDITERRANEAN AMX SERVICE

COSCO RATIONALIZES ASIA/MEDITERRANEAN AMX SERVICE

China Ocean Shipping Co. is rationalizing its new weekly

Asia/Mediterranean AMX service, reducing the number of ships from eight to seven from mid-August. The saving arises from its slot exchange agreement with Zim.

The AMX service, operated as part of the COSCO, Yangming Marine and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha alliance, will no longer call at Xingang, Colombo or Haifa, reducing the round voyage time to 49 days from 56. By taking space on Zim’s Asia-Med Line, COSCO will still be able to offer these ports on a weekly basis.

Deploying seven vessels with an average capacity of 3,600 TEUs the revised AMX service rotation is Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Port Said, Naples, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shekou and Singapore.

COSCO and Zim also exchange slots in the transatlantic trade, with COSCO taking space on Zim’s ZCS service and Zim taking space on the COSCO, Yangming and K Line alliance TAS 3 service. Both the AMX and TAS 3 service were formed in April as replacements to the previous Asia/Mediterranean/U.S. pendulum service of COSCO and Yangming.

Full details of the revised AMX service, with port transit times are posted on ComPairData, the global shipping database on the Internet at http://www.compairdata.com.
