Canadian Pacific Railway said it had a profit of 221 million Canadian dollars (U.S. $220.69 million) in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared to C$186 million in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Revenue in the quarter was C$1.41 billion, compared to C$1.29 billion in the fourth quarter 2010.
For the full year, the company had a profit of C$570 million in 2011, compared to C$651 million in 2010. Revenue in 2011 was C$5.18 billion, compared to C$4.98 billion the previous year.
The railroad said carloads were 2.6 million in 2011, off 2 percent for the year, but were 676,000 in the fourth quarter of 2011, 2 percent higher than the same period in 2010.
Intermodal carloads were 997,000 in 2011, 7 percent below 2010 levels. They were 250,000 in the fourth quarter, off 6 percent from the fourth quarter of 2010. But intermodal rates were higher. Freight revenue per intermodal carload was C$1,328 each in the fourth quarter of 2011, a 4 percent improvement over the fourth quarter of 2010.
