CP Ships, CMA CGM in vessel sharing pact

CP Ships said Tuesday that it will be a vessel provider on CMA CGM’s previously announced fortnightly service between Australasia, the U.S. East Coast and North Europe via the Panama Canal, due to start February. CP Ships will provide two of the six 2,500-TEU vessels. French carrier Marfret will also participate on the new loop.

Under the terms of the vessel sharing agreement, CMA CGM will cooperate with CP Ships and Hapag-Lloyd on their recently announced new weekly joint service, also starting in February, between Australasia, Asia, the Mediterranean and North Europe via the Suez Canal. CMA CGM will provide two of the 12 ships ranging from 2,000 TEUs to 2,500 TEUs.

The new Suez and Panama services will replace the round-the-world services known as Westabout and Eastabout, which are being discontinued in February.
