Crowley Liner Services acquires new 45-foot, 53-foot containers, chassis
Crowley Liner Services, part of the liner segment of Crowley Maritime Corp., a logistics, liner services and vessel management company, has begun to take delivery of 1,049 new 45-foot wide containers and chassis, and will soon receive 200 new 53-foot containers and chassis.
All of the new containers will arrive in Port Everglades and Jacksonville, Fla., during the next two months. The 45-foot units will be deployed in Crowley's Latin America, Caribbean and Puerto Rico services, while the 53-foot equipment will be used only in the U.S. mainland/Puerto Rico trade lane.
The acquired corrugated steel containers will augment the company's current fleet of 2,170 45-foot and 1,000 53-foot containers that were received in 2003.
'We are continuing to put money back into the business in the form of new equipment,' said Tom Crowley Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Crowley Maritime, which is based in Oakland, Calif. Crowley Liner Services is based in Jacksonville, Fla.
