CROWLEY MARITIME ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS

   Crowley Maritime Corp. has promoted David Nickless to director, corporate planning, responsible for strategic and tactical planning support for Crowley's business units.

   Nickless, who was manager, business planning, joined Crowley more than 12 years ago and has held positions in trucking, finance and management reporting.

   Crowley Maritime Services, a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp., has named Bruce Barto vice president, petroleum services, and Ed McCain as director, California marine operations.

   Barto, based in Seattle, is responsible for the company's West Coast and Alaska oil tank barge transportation and Alaska petroleum marketing and distribution activities.

   He joined Crowley in 1973 and has held operating and management positions in petroleum transportation and marketing, general cargo and vessel chartering activities and emergency response operations. Most recently, he was general manager, western Alaska services.

   McCain, based in Long Beach, will support Crowley's California harbor operations and U.S. Navy SUPSALV operations. He was director of marine operations for Crowley Liner Services in Jacksonville.

   He joined the company in 1984 and spend 12 years in San Juan, Puerto Rico in marine operations and as director of terminal operations, and several years in Jacksonville directing the activities of the domestic liner and tug barge fleet.
