Crowley selects security award winner

Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp. has selected U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Midshipman Tyler Stutin as the recipient of this year's Crowley Maritime Security Enhancement Award.

The award is presented to a candidate that has demonstrated an exceptional interest in and aptitude for a career in port, maritime or transportation security.

Stutin is a logistics and intermodal transportation major. He was president of the senior class and served as an aide to Rear Adm. Christopher McMahan, deputy superintendent of the academy.

In addition to giving the security award, Crowley has provided scholarships totaling more than $100,000 to students at maritime academies and other select institutions in the name of Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who headed the company until his death in 1994.
