Crowley to add capacity to Puerto Rico trade

The carrier will increase capacity by over 40 percent between the North Atlantic and Puerto Rico.

The ocean liner carrier group of Crowley Maritime Corporation will add a flat deck barge with a capacity of 800 TEUs to its South Atlantic Puerto Rico service in the first quarter.
According to BlueWater Reporting, the carrier currently deploys three sailings per week between Jacksonville, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico with departures from Jacksonville every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Once it has been modified to allow container transport, the new barge will bring the total number of sailings between Jacksonville and San Juan each week to four.
Crowley said in a statement it will also replace the vessels on its Pennsauken, N.J. to San Juan service with larger ones, increasing capacity by over 40 percent in the North Atlantic-Puerto Rico trade lane.
The carrier, which has served the Puerto Rico shipping market since 1954, is currently building two new LNG-powered container ships to be deployed in the trade in 2017.
