CSX LINES PICKS ULYSSES SOFTWARE FOR SAFETY MANAGEMENT
CSX Lines, an ocean carrier based in Charlotte, N.C., has contracted with Ulysses Systems Inc., a business intelligence services provider, for software to expedite safety management on 17 ships and in land-based facilities.
CSX will use Ulysses’ Task Assistant software to “reduce confusion and help focus our crews on task-specific instructions contained in our safety management system,” said Michael Bohlman, director of marine services for CSX Lines.
The carrier has published its safety management system in pdf format. “Although this provides an easy-to-use front-end, it is an extremely difficult, labor-intensive process to set up all the links that need to be in each document to maintain connectivity between documents. Task Assistant allows manuals to be up-dated and controlled with minimal effort,” said Livonia, Mich.-based Ulysses Systems.
