CUSTOMS EXPANDS NCAP TEST TO SEVEN ADDITIONAL PORTS
U.S. Customs said it plans to expand tests of its National Customs Automation Program (NCAP), the semi-monthly filing and statement processing prototype to seven additional U.S. ports.
The program was initially established in 1998 at 14 ports of entry. Customs said the seven additional ports would enable the agency to more fully evaluate the national effect of this program for its final integration into Customs' future system, the Automated Commercial Environment.
Participants are able to file their entry summaries and make payment of duties, taxes and fees owed at the ports. The test is not open being opened to new participants.
The new ports, effective July 8, will be Dallas; Houston; Indianapolis; Jacksonville, Fla.; Memphis; Norfolk, Va.; and Savannah, Ga.
The original 14 ports are Los Angeles-Long Beach and San Francisco-Oakland, Calif.; Miami; Atlanta; Chicago; Detroit and Port Huron, Mich.; Buffalo-Niagara Falls and New York, N.Y.; Cleveland; Charleston, S.C.; El Paso and Laredo, Texas; and Puget Sound, Wash.
