CUSTOMS LISTS VIOLATORS OF TEXTILE TRANSSHIPMENT, ORIGIN RULES

U.S. Customs published in the Federal Register yesterday a list of 25 textile shippers for illegally transshipping or violating country of origin rules.

The shippers, mostly located in Hong Kong and Macau, are listed under Section 592A of the 1930 Tariff Act, which is authorized under the Uruguay Round Agreements Act. These companies may appeal to the U.S. Treasury Department to be removed from the list. U.S. importers also risk penalties from Customs for doing business with these textile firms.

In an Oct. 5, Federal Register notice, Customs solicited information regarding the whereabouts of 32 foreign entities concerning violations under section 592. Importers with knowledge of these firms are encouraged to contact Customs’ assistant commissioner of Field Operations.
