CUSTOMS NAMES DEPUTY ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF FIELD OPERATIONS
' U.S. Customs has appointed William S. Heffelfinger III to deputy assistant commissioner for the Office of Field Operations.
Heffelfinger will oversee the core operations of the Office of Field Operations, including border security, trade compliance, outbound, antismuggling and passenger operations. He will also manage the agency’s 20 Customs Management Centers and 301 ports of entry.
Heffelfinger was assistant to the Customs commissioner. In this role, he was the agency’s northern border coordinator responsible for the implementation of the 30-point “Smart Border Accord” initiated by the United States and Canada. Heffelfinger also served as executive director of Customs’ Office of Border Coordination.
Prior to joining Customs, Heffelfinger was director of law enforcement and acting deputy assistant security (enforcement) for the Treasury Department.
