CUSTOMS SEIZES UNDECLARED CURRENCY AT EAGLE PASS, TEXAS

U.S. Customs inspectors performing outbound examinations have seized a total of $170,207 in unreported currency in six unrelated enforcement actions at Eagle Pass, Texas, since Sept. 14.

The largest seizure occurred on Sept. 23, during an outbound examination at Eagle Pass Bridge II. At that seizure, Customs officials seized $52,423 in unreported currency from a driver.

It not against the law to transport large amounts of currency, Customs said. Failure to declare to Customs upon entry or exit from the U.S. amounts in excess of $10,000 is a violation of federal law that can result in seizure of the currency and/or criminal charges.
