CUSTOMS TO REQUIRE NATIONAL PERMIT FOR REMOTE LOCATION FILING
U.S. Customs has announced that customs brokers participating in its remote location filing program must hold a national permit, effective Nov. 6.
The agency said the new rule applies to both current participants and those applying to participate in the program. RLF allows brokers to file formal and informal import entries from a remote location within the U.S. Customs territory other than the port of arrival.
The process to obtain a national permit'is outlined in Customs’ regulations (19 CFR 111.19 (f)). Customs said the lack of a national permit will by the Nov. 6 deadline will “result in the automatic suspension of the broker’s eligibility to participate in RLF.”
