DAEWOO BEGINS SECOND 4,100-TEU CANADA MARITIME VESSEL

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Heavy Machinery, a shipyard in South Korea, has laid the keel for Canada Maritime’s new 4,100-TEU containership 'Canmar Spirit,' to be delivered in September.

A sister ship, the 'Canmar Venture,' will be delivered by Daewoo in July. Each is about 900 feet long, drawing about 33 feet, with a service speed of 22 knots.

Canada Maritime will operate the two vessels in its Northern Service. OOCL, Canada Maritime’s longtime partner in the St. Lawrence Coordinated Service (SLCS), has ordered a third ship.

The two carriers’ 21-year-old coordinated service offers three weekly routes via Montreal. Route 1 links Montreal with Thamesport. Route 2 links Montreal with Antwerp and Hamburg. Route 3 links Montreal with Liverpool.
