Defense Department awards RFID purchase agreement to Savi
Savi Technology Inc., a provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) supply chain applications, has been awarded a blanket purchase agreement by the Department of Defense to provide engineering services and integration software for all U.S. military branches trying to meet passive RFID tag policy requirements.
On June 30, the Defense Department required all services and their suppliers to use passive or active RFID on shipments into and within military operations.
Savi's procurement contract was made by the U.S. Army Contracting Agency's Information Technology E-Commerce and Commercial Contracting Center for the implementation of compliant RFID tags.
RFID Global Solutions, a systems integrator, has been teamed with Savi Technology as part of the blanket purchase agreement.
Savi Technology has been the primary RFID procurement provider for the Department of Defense since 1994. Founded in 1989, the company is based in Sunnyvale, Calif., and has offices in Washington, D.C., London, Singapore, Johannesburg and Melbourne.
