DELTA FORMS E-COMMERCE UNIT
Delta Air Lines said Thursday it has formed a business unit to develop the airline's strategy for handling business-to-consumer, business-to-business and business-to-employee business.
The new unit, called e-Delta, will operate as an internal unit of the airline.
“e-Delta will remain fully connected to our core business and will help us build on our success in e-commerce,” said Leo F. Mullin, Delta's chairman and chief executive officer. “The unit will integrate Delta's e-business strategies and initiatives more fully into our company's everyday operation, helping us to find, develop and implement new ways to connect with our customers, shareowners and employees.”
With the new unit, Delta said it anticipates annual benefits of more than $150 million a year by 2002, as well as the development of e-commerce equity partnerships.
The unit will be led by Vince Caminiti, senior vice president of e-business.
